PNoy: Govt will buy new, not used, equipment for PNP

President Benigno Simeon Aquino III promised the Philippine National Police (PNP) that the government will purchase new, not used, equipment for the PNP. Aquino made the pledge during the 110th service anniversary of the Philippine National Police on Monday. "Lilinawin ko lang po pag sinabi nating bibili tayo ng bago hindi ito pinagsawaan ng kung sino mang Herodes," Aquino said. The President was apparently referring to the previous adminitration's multi-million purchase of helicopters which were passed off as brand new but were later said to be allegedly previously owned by former First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo. Mr. Arroyo has since denied the allegation. Aquino said the purchase of new PNP equipment was needed to enhance its capability in protecting Filipinos. "Ginagawa natin ang mga hakbangin para sa modernisasyon ng PNP...bilang bahagi ng capability enhancement program," he said. - VVP, GMA News
