Search on for next PNP chief

The search for the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) has started with the impending retirement of current PNP chief Director General Raul Bacalzo next month. “There is a shortlist. I will announce it at the appropriate time," President Benigno Aquino III told reporters Monday during the 110th PNP service anniversary at Camp Crame in Quezon City. Aquino did not divulge those included on the shortlist. Bacalzo, who took the post September last year, is set to retire on September 15. A member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1977, he took up law at the University of the East and passed the Bar in 1984. Before assuming the top PNP post, Bacalzo briefly held the post of chief of the Directorial Staff in August last year, and at that time also received his third star with the rank of police deputy director general. - Amita O.
