35 houses razed in Parañaque, Caloocan fires


Fire believed to be caused by a candle left unattended razed at least 20 houses in a residential area in Parañaque City late Monday afternoon. The fire at the Seaside Road in Tambo, Parañaque started at 5:15 p.m. and reached the second alarm, radio dzBB's Mao dela Cruz reported. No one was initially reported hurt as firefighters managed to place the fire under control at 6:30 p.m. Arson investigators are looking into information that the fire was triggered by a candle left unattended inside the house of one Baby Santillan. Meanwhile, a fire of undetermined origin hit a residential area in Caloocan City Monday noon, razing at least 15 houses and threatening a nearby gasoline station.


No one was initially reported injured in the fire that broke out at 11:53 a.m., according to a report by radio dzBB's Manny Vargas. While firefighters placed the fire under control at 12:43 p.m., they kept watch over the area as it was near a gasoline station. "May usok pa at may gasolinahan (We have to maintain our guard because there is still smoke. Besides, this area is near a gas station)," said fire marshal Superintendent Oscar de Asis. Fire volunteer group TXTFire indicated the area was located along A. Mabini in the Sangandaan district in Caloocan. De Asis cited initial reports indicating that the fire started at the ceiling of the house of a certain Arciga. He said the fire reached the third alarm before firefighters placed it under control. — KBK, GMA News
