DSWD assists Mindoro landslide victims


Some P194,817.70 in relief assistance has been provided to families affected by a landslide in Mindoro Occidental on August 4, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said. The DSWD said the amount went to 5,262 families (or 26,310 people) in 40 villages in Calintaan, Looc, Magsaysay, Mamburao, Sablayan, and San Jose towns. “The DSWD Field Office IV-B has sufficient standby funds worth P303,075.28 and stockpile of relief commodities composed of family packs, food and non-food items worth P2.73 million ready for augmentation to concerned LGUs, when necessary," DSWD Secretary Corazon Soliman said in a news release. In Sablayan town, the DSWD said it provided some 633 food packs worth P165,735.70. In Mamburao, it provided some 10 boxes of sardines and 15 boxes of corned beef worth P29,081.80. At least three evacuation centers were opened for some 675 families (or 3,375 people) from Sablayan and Looc towns. The DSWD is also providing relief aid to some 2,386 families (or 11,930 people) outside the evacuation centers. - VVP, GMA News
