Caloocan vice mayor's aide gunned down

At least two motorcycle-riding men gunned down an aide of Caloocan City Vice Mayor Edgar Erice in the city's Bagong Silang district Tuesday morning. Erice said a local parent-teacher association president was also wounded in the attack at Phase V in the Bagong Silang area. "He was a good man and very hardworking. He would serve the Bagong Silang area every day," he said in Filipino in an interview on dzBB radio, referring to the victim initially identified as Sammy de Lana. The victim was immediately killed after being shot by two men aboard a motorcycle, according to a separate report by dzBB's Allan Gatus. He sustained gunshot wounds in the face and chest, the report added. Wounded in the attack was a local PTA president initially identified as Hilda Deofino, who was wounded in the hand. Erice said he could not think of any motive for the attack, but noted the victim was his organizer in the area. "Nagulat din ako may binaril daw naka-riding in tandem, may tama sa mukha at sa dibdib. 'Di na bubuhayin (I was surprised to learn he was shot in the face and chest. It meant the suspects did not intend to let him survive)," he said. — RSJ, GMA News
