Dahil daw sa mga banta: Kontrobersiyal na art exhibit sa CCP, itinigil

MANILA – Pansamantalang isinara sa publiko nitong Martes ng Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) ang kontrobersiyal na art exhibit na “Kulo," na umani ng mga kritisismo lalo na mula sa mga Kristiyano. Sa isang pahayag, sinabing nagdesisyson ang pamunuan ng CCP na itigil muna ang exhibit dahil sa mga pagbabanta na kanilang natatanggap. Nagsimula ang exhibit noong June 17 at tatagal sana hanggang August 21. Kabilang sa mga gawang sining na makikita sa exhibit ay ang "Poleteismo" ni Mideo Cruz, na tinawag ng ilang kritiko na "blasphemous" dahil sa “kakaibang" paraan ng paggamit nito sa larawan at imahe ni Kristo na hindi katanggap-tanggap sa mga Kristiyano. "Due to numerous emails, text messages and other letters sent to various officers of the CCP, and to the artists themselves, with an increasing number of threats to persons and property, the members of the Board of the Cultural Center of the Philippines have decided to close down the Main Gallery where the Kulo Exhibit is on display," ayon sa pahayag ng CCP.

"The CCP shall continue to act as catalyst for free expression of Filipino artists. It thanks all those who have, in one way or another, contributed to the dialogue about art, and the different ways it affects society today," dagdag pa ng CCP. Samantala, tumanggi si Cruz na magbigay ng pahayag sa GMA News Online tungkol sa naging desisyon ng CCP. Nitong Lunes, bumisita si Ilocos Norte Rep Imelda Marcos sa exhibit at nagpahayag din ito ng pagkadismaya sa “obra" ni Cruz. Dahil sa "Poleteismo" ni Cruz, naging mainit ang usapin tungkol sa kalayaan sa pagpapahayag sa paraan ng sining at paggalang sa relihiyon. Sa kanyang blog, tinawag ni retired Archbishop Oscar Cruz, ang artwork na, “sick and sickening and radically insensitive to natural decency, offensive to ethical standards, [and] hideous to moral norms." Sa isang pahayag naman nitong Lunes, nanawagan ang Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), na itigil ang bahagi ng exhibit na bumabastos sa paniniwala. Iginiit ni Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales na lumabis ang mga alagad ng sining na nagsasabing ang isang paraan ng pagpapahayag ng kanilang saloobin ang naturang obra. “It’s an abuse of freedom because the use of freedom must respect responsibilities… the responsibility not to attack cultures and the responsibility not to destroy the values of people," paliwanag ni Rosales. “It’s a complete betrayal of what is right and the knowledge of what is wrong. It’s really an indecency and a big insult to people’s belief. That is not artistic freedom." Idinagdag niya. - GMA News
