Shooting incident snarls traffic in Makati - MMDA

A shooting incident near the post office in Makati City clogged early morning rush hour traffic Wednesday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said. The MMDA said the shooting occurred at the Ayala-Buendia area, prompting authorities to temporarily close a part of Ayala Extension (Malugay). "Regarding shooting incident at Ayala Buendia, as per (advise) of MAPSA ang kabarilan ng mga police ay mga carnaper, temporary closed to traffic ang Ayala extension Malugay (Makati authorities advised the shooting involved police and suspected carjackers. A part of Ayala Extension was temporarily closed to traffic)," it said on its Twitter account. Police are tracking down a suspected carjacker who managed to escape during a predawn encounter in the city, according to a separate report by radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen. Authorities kept bystanders, including members of the media, away from the site of the shooting lest the suspect fire at civilians, the report added. Before dawn Wednesday, police shot dead a suspected member of the Onad Group, which had been linked to carjacking activities. However, a companion of the slain suspect managed to escape even as a policeman was shot and injured during the predawn encounter. — RSJ, GMA News
