Skype update for OSX Lion allows HD video calls

Users of computers running Apple Inc.’s latest operating system, Mac OS X Lion, can now make and receive video calls in high definition (HD) with Skype’s videoconferencing. In a blog post, Skype announced this week the release of its updated software - version 5.3, with the new features of OS X Lion in mind. “With Skype 5.3 for Mac OS X, you’ll also be able to send and receive HD quality video when talking to your friends and family. You’ll need to use the Mac’s built-in HD webcam or choose from a variety of webcams from our Skype Shop, such as the Logitech C910, to make video calls in crystal clear HD quality," it said. It also recommended an Internet upload/download speed of 1.5Mbps to ensure clear HD video calls on the Mac. Skype said its Skype 5.3 for Mac OS X also has “a number of fixes and improvements to the user interface." But it also said its latest client for Mac is compatible with past versions of OS X, going all the way back to Leopard (OS X 10.5, released in 2007). — TJD, GMA News
