Google News tweaked to be more tablet-friendly

After making its services friendlier for smartphones, search giant Google Inc. has tweaked its offerings further, this time for tablet devices. Google announced this week "minor enhancements" to its Google News service, making it more accessible and friendly for users of Android and iPad tablets. "We have optimized columns in the home page and section pages so that they can be more easily viewed in portrait and landscape orientations," Mobile Google News tech lead Arun Prasath said in a blog post. Other updates include:

  • a conveniently placed menu on the top for navigating across sections;
  • support of finger swiping through the multimedia strip in expanded story boxes; and
  • a more friendly edition picker. Prasath said these improvements are initially available in the US edition. One can see the changes, by typing news.google.com on the browser of the tablet. — RSJ, GMA News
