Grenade blast rocks Butuan City apartment

BUTUAN CITY— A hand grenade went off at the doorstep of the unit rented by a Department of Foreign Affairs employee along Santan Street in Barangay J.P. Rizal here, shortly before midnight Wednesday, a police official said. Butuan City Police Director Senior Supt. Jose Carillo told GMA News Online the blast took place around 11:45 p.m. at the unit rented by Abdullah Pangandaman of DFA at the Makuno Apartment. Aside from the door of the Pangandaman's rented unit, the blast also damaged vehicles parked near the area. Also, Carillo said the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM)-Caraga is renting a unit for its office in the same apartment building owned by Mr. and Mrs. Bernardito Makuno. No one was reported hurt in the blast, so far, Carillo added. He clarified that the grenade went off right in front of the apartment unit rented by DFA's Pangandaman – and not by Department of Transportation and Communications-Caraga regional director Atty. Alim Pangandaman as earlier reported. Police are still investigating the incident. — Ben Serrano/LBG, GMA News
