Drivers raise concern over 12% VAT on toll rates

Drivers of public utility vehicles are concerned with the 12-percent value-added tax (VAT) on toll rates the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) will charge starting October, GMA News’ “24 Oras" newscast reported Thursday. The imposition of VAT will possibly coincide with a slight increase in the base toll, the Toll Regulatory Board also told “24 Oras."

Ngayon, kung mag-i-increase sila, may posibilidad naman na mapagusapan namin ng pamunuan na magdagdag-pasahe kami," said driver Joel Tiongson. Another report on “24 Oras" computed the possible toll fees after the BIR imposes the 12-percent VAT. From Alabang and Calamba, for example, the current toll fee is now at P86. With 12-percent VAT, it will rise to P96.32, the newscast reported.
