Alleged accomplice in Negros massacre falls

A suspect in the massacre of relatives of a Negros Occidental-based broadcaster last July 29 was arrested late Friday, the police here said. Arrested was Robert Corbo, an alleged accomplice of his brother and suspected gunman Romeo Corbo, at 5:30 p.m. in Barangay 1A, Manapla town. Romeo remains at large. The brothers were linked to the massacre of the kin of broadcaster Ferdinand “Bambi" Yngson, according to a Visayan Daily Star report on Saturday. Robert was included as a respondent in the multiple murder cases and frustrated murder charges for the killing of Ranulfo and Elsa Javellana and their daughter, Gina Zaragoza, police records showed. Joseph Javellana, son of the murdered couple, was shot in the stomach but survived the massacre, according to police records. Police suspected Romeo, a deputized agent of the Land Transportation Office, must have shot the four last July 29 in Sagay City, while Robert drove the getaway vehicle. Sagay police officer in charge Senior Inspector Gabriel Gutierrez said the victims’ relatives had raised a P200,000 reward for information leading to the suspects. Negros Occidental provincial police chief Senior Superintendent Allan Guisihan said the reward may hasten Romeo’s arrest. — JE/VS, GMA News
