UP Manila grad tops list of 1,605 new doctors


A graduate from the University of the Philippines (UP) in Manila topped the list of passers for the August 2011 physician licensure exam, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced Wednesday. Mark Augustine Onglao of UP Manila got an 88.4-percent score in the exam to lead the 1,605 passers out of the 2,131 examinees. [Click here for complete list of passers.] The licensure exam was administered last week by the PRC Board of Medicine to medicine graduates in Manila, Cebu and Davao. Mary Rose Maballo of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) came in second place with 88.17 percent. Other graduates who made it to the “Top 10" include: 3. Sharlene Marie Lao of the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) and Eugene Odono of UP Manila – 87.92 percent 4. John Lyle Tron Gomez of UP Manila – 87.75 percent 5. Deonne Thaddeus Gauiran of UP Manila – 87.67 percent 6. Caroline Bernadette King Kay of UST – 87. 58 percent 7. Mark Lester Sy of UST – 87.50 percent 8. Marie Shella De Robles of UP Manila – 87.42 percent 9. Juan Carlos Abon, Jan Miguel Deogracias and Erickson Torio of UP Manila – 87.33 percent 10. Heherson Adriano of Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation – 87.25 percent UP Manila and the Cebu Institute of Medicine, meanwhile, were the top performing schools based on the exam. Both posted 100-percent passing rates in the licensure exam. The oath-taking ceremony of the successful examinees will be held at 1 p.m. on September 11 at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Manila, according to the PRC. - Andreo C.
