3 nabbed for selling endangered animals in Manila

At least three people were arrested in a police sting operation Wednesday night for allegedly selling endangered animals in Manila. Police said the three surrendered after learning they were caught in a buy-bust operation in Tayuman in Manila's Tondo district, according to a report on radio dzBB early Thursday. Manila Police District (MPD) District Intelligence Division head Superintendent Ernesto Fojas initially identified the three as Luz Estacio, James Feroline, and Jake Vargas. He said their initial investigation showed the three had sold "exotic" animals for P1,000 to P2,000 each.

A report on GMA Network's "Unang Balita" said that among the seized endangered species were 70 mynah birds, a serpent eagle, and 22 turtles, the report said. The same television report said the animals came from Bicol and Palawan. The three face charges for violating the Wildlife Resources Conservation Act. — RSJ, GMA News
