NDRRMC: 215 evacuated after flash floods hit south Cotabato

Some 215 people were evacuated from their homes in Polomolok town in South Cotabato after a flash flood hit their village Thursday afternoon. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the incident occurred at Purok Riverside in Silway 8 in Polomolok at 2 p.m. "About 45 families with 215 dependents were evacuated to the barangay gym," it said. The NDRRMC said the Polomolok municipal disaster management office provided food assistance to the affected families. It also provided a bulldozer for the trenching of the river, and a dump truck to transfer the families to the evacuation area. Rain showers and thunderstorms had occurred on parts of the country Thursday, even as state weather forecasters said the inter-tropical convergence zone may cause rain over the country on Friday. — LBG, GMA News
