PAGASA: Flash floods, landslides threaten Mindanao

State weather forecasters on Saturday warned of possible flash floods and landslides over parts of Mindanao due to the inter-tropical convergence zone. In an 11 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said the ITCZ continues to affect parts of the country and will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. "The ITCZ affecting the country is expected to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the archipelago becoming widespread rain over Mindanao which may trigger flashfloods and landslides," it said. PAGASA's Twitter account said the rain showers and thunderstorms may particularly become widespread over the eastern section of Mindanao. It said rain showers and thunderstorms are possible over Pagadian City and neighboring areas. Light rains had been noted earlier in most parts of Davao Oriental; while light to moderate rains were noted in Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur. PAGASA added light rain had been noted over Butuan City and Bayugan in Agusan del Sur; and over Tandag and Tago in Surigao del Sur. — LBG, GMA News
