Twilight sequel 'Breaking Dawn 2' scam hits Facebook

A new scam targeting fans of vampire movies is now spreading in social networking site Facebook, computer security Trend Micro warned over the weekend. Trend Micro said the scam, which claims to offer free tickets to the movie “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2," contains links to survey pages that steal personal data. “Links lead to survey pages that steal personal data where users are asked for information including cell phone numbers and email addresses ... (The) personal data may be used in future attacks and/or cybercrime," it said in a blog post. It noted several incidents of click jacking on Facebook, which redirect users to a malicious survey that asks for personal information such as email address or mobile number. Users who click the “Share Link" button allow the post to be automatically shared on their wall. Clicking on the image or text redirects the user to the survey page that the user needs to fill out, before being asked for his or her email addresses. “Once (the) email address is provided in the said form, the people behind this attack may then eventually send different spammed messages to the affected user," Trend Micro said. But that’s not all: after this image, a new confirmation page appears, asking for personal credentials such as cellphone numbers. “Needless to say, the page does not show any e-tickets or passes to the movie," Trend Micro said. Instead, the user is required to take another survey. — TJD, GMA News
