Aquino to open exhibit on late father Sunday

President Benigno Aquino III will open Sunday afternoon an exhibit on his late father, former Sen. Benigno “Ninoy" Aquino Jr., on the occasion of the elder Aquino’s 28th death anniversary. Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said the opening of the “Ninoy My Hero" exhibit at the SM Megamall is so far the only public engagement of the president for the day. “Alam ko dadalo ang Pangulong Aquino rito (As far as I know, Aquino will be attending this event)," she said on government-run dzRB radio. But she said Aquino is likely to have no public engagement in the morning and will likely spend Sunday with his siblings and family. “Normally ang Sunday ni Pangulong Aquino meron silang lunch na magkakapatid at mga pamangkin," she said. On August 21, the nation will mark the 28th death anniversary of the elder Aquino, who was gunned down while disembarking from a China Airlines plane at the then Manila International Airport. His assassination triggered a series of protest actions that led to a snap election in February 1986. Charges of cheating led to a bloodless 1986 EDSA uprising, that ousted then President Ferdinand Marcos and catapulted President Aquino’s late mother Corazon to power. — LBG, GMA News
