Ninoy could have been a columnist, co-host of Kris – grandchild

The outspoken opposition leader Benigno “Ninoy" Aquino Jr., whose 28th death anniversary is commemorated Sunday, could have been a columnist or co-host of his daughter Kris, his grandchild said. Kiko Aquino Dee, son of Aquino’s daughter Viel, said his grandfather could have been a newspaper columnist. “Nag-start siya as a journalist, tapos marami siyang sinusulat. Feeling ko, after his political life, he would want to, ‘yung magsusulat ng mga memoirs siguro. Baka maging columnist siya sa isang diyaryo or something," Dee said in an interview aired on GMA News TV’s Balitanghali newscast.
With his gab, “baka maging tandem pa sila [Ninoy at Kris], ‘di ba?" Dee said in jest. Meanwhile, a Palace official said the later former senator could have also been a prominent opinion leader in the online sphere. “Siguro blogger na siya ngayon at nagpe-Facebook, dahil hindi mo talaga mapipigilan na mag-communicate si Ninoy eh," said Communications Undersecretary Manolo Quezon in another interview. Remember his legacy The legacy of Ninoy, who was assassinated in 1983 at the former Manila International Airport, now named after him, should not be lost on the youth, said people close to Aquino in a tribute to him at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. “I think more than ever, what Ninoy stood for should be remembered. I’m really sorry about the fact na kulang ang nasasabi tungkol sa buhay ni Ninoy at saka ‘yung ginawa niya, and what he stood for," said Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose Cojuangco Jr. in an interview aired on Balitanghali. Cojuangco is a brother of Aquino’s widow, former President Corazon Cojuangco Aquino.
“Ang kulang sa ating bayan, wala tayong patriotism eh, because we do not know our own country," added Charito Planas, who served as deputy presidential spokesperson during the Arroyo administration. In a statement, Malacanañg urged Filipinos to always remember the elder Aquino’s sacrifice.
