Manila hostage survivors, victims' kin meet with Chinese envoy in PHL

Families of the victims of last year’s Manila hostage tragedy met with Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Liu Jiangchao following their arrival in the Philippines Sunday night. Liu advised the families of victims of the Manila hostage crisis to take their concerns directly to the Philippine government, according to a report by Radio Television Hong Kong. The RTHK report quoted Liu as saying the embassy had to work within its limits, and that it had done much since the tragedy a year ago. Sunday night’s meeting took place before their scheduled meeting with Justice Secretary Leila de Lima Monday. It said the survivors and family members of slain tour leader Masa Tse met with Liu after arriving. They are seeking an apology and compensation from Philippine authorities. For his part, a Hong Kong Democratic Party legislator, James To, who is “helping" the families, said Beijing could do more. To said the leaders of the two countries were to have a summit meeting in the coming days and voiced hopes Liu would reflect the views of those affected by the tragedy in seeking justice. — RSJ, GMA News
