Bangladeshi gets 5-year jail term for raping Pinay maid in UAE

A court sentenced a Bangladeshi worker to five years in prison after having been found guilty of raping a Filipina maid in their sponsor’s house in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last year. The Court of First Instance also ordered the 25-year-old Bangladeshi worker to be deported after serving his jail term, news site Khaleej Times reported on Monday. However, the report said the Bangladeshi can still appeal the verdict in 15 days before the Court of Appeal. Court records showed the incident occurred on April 22 last year, when the Bangladeshi allegedly forced himself on the Filipina maid when she was alone in her room. According to the report of the General Department of Criminal Evidence, the semen traces found in the maid’s body and on her bed blanket matched with the defendant’s. The defendant told the investigating prosecutor he was drunk on that day but insisted he had consensual sex with the maid. “He entered and locked the door. He then pulled me to bed and undressed me. He had forced sex with me," the 37-year-old Filipina maid was quoted in the report as saying. An Indian driver testified that he saw the accused running away from the maid’s room and leaving the house on that day. The driver said the maid was crying and was so scared.
