Weather: Mina to bring rains over south Luzon, Visayas

Tropical Depression Mina maintained its strength as it moved north northwestward Monday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said. While no public storm warning signals have been raised, PAGASA said Mina is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon and will bring scattered to widespread rains over southern Luzon and the Visayas. It also estimated rainfall of 10 to 20 mm per hour within the 300-km diameter of Mina.

In its 11 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said Mina was estimated at 350 km east southeast of Virac, Catanduanes as of 10 a.m. Monday, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and moving north northwest then north slowly. By Tuesday morning, it is expected to be 470 km east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes and by Wednesday morning, it is expected to be 790 km northeast of Virac, Catanduanes. On Thursday morning, it is expected to be 1,130 km northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, PAGASA said. Meanwhile, PAGASA said Mina will remain in the Philippine area of responsibility until at least Wednesday. "Wala pong indication magla-landfall si 'Mina' (There is no indication 'Mina' will make landfall)," it added. PAGASA also hinted it will monitor for other possible weather disturbances other than Mina. — RSJ, GMA News
