MMDA: Number coding lifted on Aug. 29, 30

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority will lift the number coding scheme on August 29 and 30, which Malacañang had declared as holidays. In an advisory on its Twitter account, the MMDA referred to the Palace's proclamation last week that National Heroes' Day and Eid'l Fitr are holidays. "ADVISORY: Number Coding shall be lifted on Aug 29 and 30 due to said dates being holidays," it said. On Mondays, vehicles with plate numbers ending in 1 and 2 are usually barred from main roads from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Tuesdays, vehicles with plate numbers ending in 3 and 4 are barred from main roads from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Last week, the Palace announced that August 30, Tuesday, will be a regular holiday in observance of Eid'l Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. President Benigno Aquino III signed Proclamation No. 234, where he said Aug. 30 is a holiday "to promote cultural understanding and integration, the entire Filipino nation should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr." In late July, deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte noted that August 29, National Heroes’ Day, is also a holiday. Under Proclamation No. 84, National Heroes’ Day is a holiday that falls on the last Monday of August. — RSJ, GMA News
