Weather: 'Mina' moving away from PHL, says PAGASA

Flash floods and landslides threaten Southern Luzon and Visayas even as Tropical Depression Mina moved northwest and away from Philippine territory Monday afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said. In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Mina was estimated at 390 km east of Virac, Catanduanes as of 4 p.m., packing maximum winds of 45 kph near the center. "Papalayo po siya ng PAR (It is moving away from the Philippine area of responsibility)," PAGASA said on its Twitter account. PAGASA said Mina is forecast to move northeast at 11 kph. "Southern Luzon and Visayas will experience cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rain showers and thunderstorms which may trigger flash floods and landslides," it said. It added that Central Luzon and Mindanao will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms while northern Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. At the same time, PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over northern and Central Luzon and coming from the southwest to west over the rest of the country. Meanwhile, PAGASA noted rain showers over Calamba, San Pedro and Los Baños (Laguna) and Muntinlupa City Monday afternoon, as well as Prosperidad (Agusan del Sur). It also recorded rain over Tanay (Rizal) and Tagaytay City (Cavite), as well as Pateros, Rosario (Cavite) and Fort Bonifacio. Moderate to heavy rainfall was also recorded over Iba, Zambales. — RSJ, GMA News
