PNoy willing to have own TV show — Coloma

To better reach the public, President Benigno Aquino III may have his own television show soon, one of his communications official said on Monday. “He’s willing to make himself available for programs that will give him more time to talk with the people—maybe it could be a town hall-type [of program]," said Presidential Communications Operations Office head Herminio Coloma Jr. However, there is no concrete plan yet as the administration is more focused on reformatting the government-owned NBN 4, which is under Coloma’s supervision. Coloma said it is not the first time an incumbent President will have a television program because Aquino’s mother, the late President Corazon Aquino, had a weekly program during her term. He said there is also no discussion yet if the President’s sister, TV personality Kris Aquino, would be part of the same show. Public service network Coloma said Aquino wants to maximize the use of NBN 4 as a government information arm. “So our preference is to be known as a public service network," he said. “He (Aquino) has very concrete suggestions on what we can present differently and better so that we can have our own unique identity," he added. Coloma said their focus is not revenue but being more effective in delivering the government’s message. “The President is the chief communicator and that he also wants to generate or he also wants to gather feedback from the people as part of the ‘Kayo ang Boss Ko’ concept—being able to know the real sentiments, ano, ‘yung saloobin ng mamamayan," he said. “That would be one good reason why he may want to devote time to be able to communicate with the people directly through a program," Coloma added. The new image and look of NBN 4, with new shows and programs, is expected to be seen in the last quarter of the year, Coloma said. The administration is eyeing to air game shows and reality shows involving both showbiz personalities and ordinary people to lure audiences. “People are always interested in showbiz. So our idea is we will be showing showbiz personalities that have advocacies like some of them are helping children or they contribute to educational foundations," Coloma said. They will also feature the nobility and heroism of the soldiers that have been given the Medal of Valor or the Gold Cross. “They are not just brawn heroes. They have families, they have sons and daughters," Coloma said. Coloma also said that aside from programming, they will also improve the technical capability of the station. “That’s also part of the entire revitalization concept. We have just talked today about the re-programming but the technical aspect will be another important aspect," he said. - KBK, GMA News
