Jailbreaking the latest iOS5 beta
It didn't take long for hackers to jailbreak the latest beta version of Apple Inc.'s iOS 5 operating system for its iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. Barely two days after iOS 5's beta 6 came out, it was cracked to allow unauthorized apps to run on the devices using the beta. "After a sluggish response (by hacker standards) to iOS 5 beta 5, it took a day less for iOS 5 beta 6 to be jailbroken. This time, the first tool out of the blocks isn’t Redsn0w, but the latest version of Sn0wbreeze from hacker iH8sn0w," UK-based phone site FoneHome said. It added this was "to be expected" as Apple nears the final version of its next-generation iOS 5, which includes a new beta version of iTunes (10.5 beta 6). FoneHome said the Sn0wbreeze jailbreak tool Version 2.8 will allow one to crack an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS or first generation iPad open. The iPad 2 is not supported. It offered a link to SmashiPhone, which gave hints on how to download and run the tool. Apple and jailbreakers have been playing a cat-and-mouse game of sorts, with Apple releasing updates to iOS to thwart jailbreaks, and the jailbreakers exploiting new holes in the OS to run unauthorized apps. — TJD, GMA News
