NDRRMC: 3 killed in Bukidnon flash floods

Three people were reported killed in the wake of flash floods that hit Bukidnon province over the weekend, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported Wednesday. The NDRRMC cited belated reports saying the floods occurred at 8 a.m. last Aug. 21 at Purok 4 in Bantuanon, Lantapan; and at Fortich Bridge in Valencia City. It identified two of the fatalities as Ernesto Gahinay, 40, and Marmar Gahinay, 7, of Lantapan town. But the fatality from Valencia city was unidentified, it said. The NDRRMC said the Lantapan local government provided cash assistance of P1,000 for the fatalities' kin. The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council recommended a burial assistance of P3,000 for each victim. Meanwhile, the NDRRMC reported a one-kilometer portion of the national highway at Kauswagan in Cagayan de Oro City was flooded, rendering one lane impassable. It said the flooding occurred between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. last Sunday. — RSJ, GMA News
