Weather: 4 Luzon provinces under Signal No. 3 - PAGASA


Four areas in northern Luzon have been placed under Storm Signal No. 3 as Typhoon Mina (Nanmadol) intensified further and continued to threaten the region, state weather forecasters said Friday noon. At a press briefing, Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration senior weather forecaster Robert Sawi also said Metro Manila can expect heavy downpour Saturday. "By Saturday, ang expected rainfall medyo may kalakasan sa bandang southern Luzon including Metro Manila (By Saturday we can expect the rainfall to be heavy in Southern Luzon, including Metro Manila)," Sawi said. He said Mina is likely to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Tuesday. Storm signals PAGASA said areas under Storm Signal No. 3 include:

  • Cagayan
  • Calayan Islands
  • Babuyan Group of Islands Areas under Storm Signal No. 2 include:
  • Northern Aurora
  • Quirino
  • Ifugao
  • Mt. Province
  • Kalinga
  • Apayao
  • Batanes Group of Islands Meanwhile, those under Storm Signal No. 1 are:
  • Rest of Aurora
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • Benguet
  • Ilocos Sur
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Abra Location PAGASA's 11 a.m. advisory said Mina was estimated at 150 km east northeast of Casiguran, Aurora as of 10 a.m., packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph. Mina was forecast to move northwest at 9 kph and is expected to pass along the northern tip of Cagayan or will be at 120 km northeast of Tuguegarao City Saturday morning, PAGASA said. By Sunday morning, it said Mina is expected to be 30 km east southeast of Basco, Batanes. By Monday morning, it is expected to be 210 km north northeast of Basco, Batanes. The weather bureau likewise reminded residents in low-lying and mountainous areas under storm signals and warned those in southern Luzon and the Visayas against possible flash floods and landslides. It added those living in coastal areas should be alert against big waves or storm surges generated by Mina. Also, PAGASA said the estimated rainfall from the 600-km diameter of Mina may be from 15 to 25 mm per hour. — RSJ, GMA News
