Pinoy missing after diving in his underwear into Malaysian dam

Rescuers are looking for an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who dived in his underwear 45 meters into the Bakun Dam reservoir in Malaysia on Tuesday evening. A report of Malaysia's "The Star" on Friday said rescuers have so far failed to find any sign of the worker, initially identified as a certain "Michael Angelo," 32. In the report, Sarawak Hidro managing director Zulkifle Osman said the Filipino was married to a local woman and had worked there for the past 10 years as a subcontractor. Zulkifle said the Filipino was with two other workers near the water-intake area as they were dismantling a steel cabin on top of a crane. “After the work was finished and they were about to go off, the worker suddenly took off his shirt and trousers, and wearing only his underwear, went to the edge of the crane and dived into the water below," Zulkifle was quoted as saying in the report. Zulkifle said the Filipino's fellow workers were surprised at what the victim did and could not restrain him in time. "We sent some people to search for him and we could not locate him. After he dived, he did not even surface and has not been seen since," he said. In the report, the two workers said the Filipino was behaving strangely before he jumped. “They saw him mumbling something, and after he was down to his underwear, he just ran to the edge and jumped," Zulkifle said. - VVP, GMA News
