Public warned vs 'Steve Jobs' social media scams
With the high-profile resignation of Steve Jobs from Apple Inc., a computer security firm warned netizens against possible scams related to the development. Sophos said the public should expect cybercriminals to think up scams via email, social networking sites like Facebook, and even via micro-blogging site Twitter. âConsidering the companyâs and the recently departed CEOâs mega-fame, it wouldnât be a surprise if we see some scams on email, Facebook and Twitter using the news of Jobsâ handing over the reins to dupe users. So keep your eyes peeled and your tap-happy fingers on check," Carole Theriault, who heads Sophosâs Naked Security news website, said in a blog post. Earlier this week, Jobs stepped down as Apple CEO plinth, citing health reasons. He is taking a less taxing role as chairman of the Apple board. Theriault noted Apple has a following âthat many companies can only dream of." âRemember when UK neuroscientists showed that when Apple fans were shown the companyâs iconic imagery, their brain lit up like Jesus fans shown religious depictions?" âPut simply, donât let curiosity bite you in the ass," she added. â TJD, GMA News
