Typhoon Mina slows down after landfall but maintains strength


Typhoon Mina (Nanmadol) slowed down but maintained its strength after making landfall over Gonzaga town in Cagayan province Saturday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said. In its 11 a.m. update, PAGASA said Mina was estimated at 90 km northeast of Tuguegarao City in Cagayan as of 10 a.m. Saturday. PAGASA said Mina still packed maximum sustained winds of 195 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 230 kph, and was forecast to move northwest at 7 kph. On Sunday morning, it is expected to be 80 km north of Aparri, Cagayan. On Monday morning it is expected to be 160 km north of Aparri, Cagayan or 70 km Northwest of Basco, Batanes. By Tuesday morning it is forecast to be 155 km north of Basco, Batanes. Areas under Storm Signal No. 4 are:

PAGASA reminded residents in low-lying and mountainous areas under storm signals and those in Southern Luzon and Visayas to be alert against possible flash floods and landslides. It also reminded those living in coastal areas to be alert against big waves or storm surges generated by Mina. PAGASA estimated 15 to 25 mm per hour of rainfall within the 600-km diameter of Mina. — LBG, GMA News
