NDRRMC: 2 dead, 2 missing; 11,720 affected by Typhoon Mina


At least two children were confirmed dead and two fishermen remain missing, while several roads and bridges were impassable in the wake of Typhoon Mina (Nanmadol), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Saturday noon. In its noon update, the NDRRMC identified the two fatalities as Reajen Bautista, 6; and her brother John Rey, 5, who were killed after a landslide buried their house in Rabon village in San Fabian, Pangasinan. "The victims were covered/buried in mud," it said. Still missing are fishermen Fred Nantes Sr., 48, of Luna, La Union; and Nelson Vergara of Baras, Catanduanes, who went fishing but had not returned. The NDRRMC also said Mina affected at least 2,888 families or 11,720 people in 27 villages in eight towns and one city in four provinces. At least 52 families or 196 people are being served in two evacuation centers. Some nine houses were destroyed in Negros Occidental. In Central Visayas, a steel-hulled passenger ship, MV Maria Josefa, was reported sinking while en route to Catainga, Masbate, from Bogo, Cebu. But the ship, which was carrying 84 passengers, docked safely at Bogo Port at 6:53 a.m. with no casualties. Roads, bridges Several roads and bridges were impassable due to Mina. These included:

  • Ilocos - Panzian to Adams Road in Ilocos Norte are not passable due to overflowing of water flowing from the mountain.
  • Cagayan Valley - In Cagayan province, Tawi Bridge in Peñablanca and both Abusag and Bagunot Bridges in Baggao are reported impassable due to flooding. Clearing and removal of debris along the National Road on the Northern Part of Cagayan is underway. - The Sta. Maria Overflow Bridge (along Secondary National Road) is underwater at about 60 cm.
  • Cordillera - In Baguio City, Kennon Road (City limit) – punch thru open, not passable due to slides. - Leonard Wood Road is hardly passable due to flooding. - In Benguet, Kennon, Camp 1, Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya (Guesset Section), Gurel-Bokod-Kabayan Road (Bugaw Section), Baguio-Bontoc Road (Ambasador Tublay Section and Topdac. - Atok km 279-700, and Cotcot Section) are closed, ongoing road clearing operations. - In Mt. Province, the Mt. Province-Nueva Vizcaya (Sukit Section), Baguio-Bontoc Road (Balitian Section) are closed.
  • Metro Manila - Some areas in Pio, Valenzuela City were reported flooded with 26-inche-deep water and not passable to light vehicles.
Power, communication lines Cagayan is experiencing power outages since 10:30 p.m. Friday. Some parts of Isabela from Santiago City to San Pablo are experiencing a power outage. In Cordillera, Kalinga has experienced power interruption since 11 p.m. Friday. — LBG, GMA News
