'Mina' accelerates northwestward; Batanes under signal 3


Typhoon Mina (Nanmadol) accelerates slightly and continued to move north-northwestward, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said. In its 11 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said Mina packed maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph and was moving north-northwest at 9 kph. As of 10 a.m., it said Mina was 60 km west of Basco, Batanes. PAGASA said Mina is expected to be 260 km north-northwest of Basco, Batanes, Monday morning and 530 km north-northwest of Basco, Batanes Tuesday morning. Under Storm Signal No. 3 is the Batanes Group of Islands. Under Storm Signal No. 2 are:

  • Babuyan Group of Islands
  • Calayan Group of Islands
  • Ilocos Norte
Under Storm Signal No. 1:
  • Cagayan
  • Apayao
  • Abra
  • Ilocos Sur
Storm warning signals elsewhere were lowered. However, PAGASA warned residents in low-lying and mountainous areas, particularly the western section of Northern and Central Luzon, against possible flash floods and landslides. It also warned those living in coastal areas against big waves or storm surges generated by Mina. PAGASA also estimated rainfall from 10 to 20 mm per hour within the 550-km diameter of the typhoon. — LBG, GMA News
