The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said 12 people have died and nine others are still missing after tropical cyclone "Mina" (international name: Nanmadol) pounded Northern Luzon. In its 6:00 a.m. update on Monday, the NDRRMC also said Ilocos Norte passed Provincial Resolution 052-2011 declaring the province under a state of calamity on Sunday. Although "Mina" had weakened into a tropical storm as of Monday morning and is now heading to Taiwan, it left several people dead. The latest victims include four people from Baguio City and two from Benguet province. The NDRRMC said the latest fatalities include:
Gefonie Cael, 18, Km 8 Asin Road, Baguio City (landslide), and Rodolfo Gacugas, 17, Sitio Bagto Ucab, Itogon, Benguet (landslide). At least nine people were reported missing while 21 others were injured. The latest list of missing persons include: Roberto Agaming, 62, Manabo, Abra (drowning), and Dindo Candido, 28, Villaviciosa, Abra (drowning). The NDRRMC said "Mina" affected 42,246 families (or 170,115 people) in 485 villages in 73 towns and four cities in 15 provinces. Of these, 3,001 families (or 13,930 people) are still staying in 79 evacuation centers. At least 39 houses were destroyed while 239 were damaged. Damage to property was estimated at P955,822,827.47, including P14.75 million in infrastructure, P800,000 in school buildings, and P940,272,827.47 in agriculture. As of midnight Sunday, 10 bridges and 33 road sections remained closed to traffic due to landslides, scoured slope protections, eroded shoulders, and floods. - VVP, GMA News
