US Ambassor Cuisia: No Pinoys hurt in hurricane 'Irene'

Jose Cuisia Jr., Philippine Ambassador to Washington in the United States, said no Filipinos were reported among the casualties of Hurricane "Irene," which pounded the United States' East Coast last weekend. According to a report on Monday on Bombo Radyo, Cuisia said they have not yet received information about Filipinos being killed or hurt because of the hurricane. Last weekend, the Philippine Embassy in Washington issued an advisory to Filipinos and Fil-Americans in the East Coast against the threat from Hurricane Irene. "The Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. advises all Filipinos and Filipino-Americans in the East Coast of the United States to observe caution and to continue monitoring developments as Hurricane Irene is due to pass the area. This will result in heavy rains and winds with gusts well over 100 miles per hour," it had said in an advisory posted on its website. The embassy said those in need of consular assistance may contact the Philippine Foreign Service establishment in their jurisdiction. - VVP, GMA News
