Beyonce's pregnancy bumps world record in tweets anew

As it turns out, R&B singer Beyonce's palpably pregnant physique wasn't the only bump that made a world premiere during the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards Night on Monday. Microblogging site Twitter announced Tuesday that after Beyonce took off her jacket and rubbed her tummy to end her performance at the annual awards show, the singer unleashed a new record bump of tweets sent through the social networking site. "Last night at 10:35pm ET, Beyonce's big MTV #VMA moment gave Twitter a record bump: 8,868 Tweets per second," the service said through its official account. In contrast, the previous record was set during the finals game of the FIFA Women's World Cup in July when Japan triumphed over the United States, sending Twitter users in a flurry of button-pushing that generated as much as 7,196 tweets per second. At some point, the phrase "BEYONCE IS PREGNANT" climbed up the top of Twitter's top trending list in the Philippines and worldwide, and is still well on the seventh spot as of this posting. Filipino fans of the international star, who were visibly shocked and happy at the news, chimed in with witty remarks and funny reactions to the surprising news.

Beyonce and husband Jay-Z began dating in 2002 and were married in April 2008. For years, her many fans and the media have speculated about whether and when they might have a baby. Beyonce took home the Best Choreography Award for her "Run the World (Girls)" music video on Monday, presented during the annual awards' pre-show. She bested Lady Gaga's "Judas," Britney Spears' "Till the World Ends" and Bruno Mars' "The Lazy Song" in the category. Aside from this record feat, the 2011 edition of MTV's awards show reportedly drew its largest audience to date, where more than 12.4 million viewers tuned to their TV screens as Lady Gaga appeared in drag, and the late British singer Amy Winehouse was remembered in a moving tribute.
