Fire hits warehouse compound in Pasay

A fire of undetermined origin razed at least three warehouses in a compound in Pasay City before dawn Thursday, destroying some P30 million in property. Several firefighters rushed to the Kalayaan-Merville Park area shortly after the fire broke out at about 3 a.m., radio dzBB’s Roland Bola reported. There was no initial report of casualties, even as volunteer firefighter group TXTFire said the blaze reached Task Force Alpha before it was placed under control past 6 a.m. The dzBB report cited initial information showing the warehouses affected by the fire had housed garments as well as medicines, including antibiotics.

A drizzle did not help put out the fire, even as strong winds threatened to fan the flames, the report said. A separate report by radio dzBB’s Sam Nielsen said firefighters had a hard time getting to the scene because there was only one entrance to the compound. It said arson investigators estimated the damage to property at P30 million, even as they are verifying information the fire stemmed from an electrical short circuit. — RSJ, GMA News
