Pinoy online voters rally behind P. Princesa, Shamcey

Filipino Internet users showed their support for the Puerto Princesa Underground River and Shamcey Supsup as voting for the respective contests they are competing in draws to a close, data from two major search engine companies showed Thursday. According to separate search data sent to GMA News Online by Yahoo! Philippines and Google Philippines, Pinoy netizens trooped to their favorite search engines to get updates about the status of the country's bets to different online voting competitions. The Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) is currently vying for a spot in the search for the "New 7 Wonders of Nature," a competition that seeks to elect seven natural wonders of recent history. According to Yahoo! data, the PPUR currently ranks third in terms of share of international and national votes. Voting for the competition ends on November 11, 2011, so Filipinos can still vote by logging on to the New 7 Wonders website or by texting PPUR to 2861. Automatic semi-finalist Meanwhile, Shamcey Supsup, the country's representative to the 2011 Miss Universe pageant slated on September 11, is reportedly leading in the pageant's online poll, whose winner will automatically advance to the semi finals of the competition. Based on search insights from Google Philippines, "Shamcey Supsup" was among the top topics searched for by Filipinos online from August 24 to 30. According to a report by Yahoo! Philippines, Supsup got a total of 25 percent of the partial results of the vote, followed by Puerto Rico's Viviana Ortiz. The final results will be released on the awards night on September 12, which will be held in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Voting, however, will close on September 11, so Pinoys could still log on to the official Miss Universe website to vote. Supsup, an Architecture graduate from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, was crowned the Bb. Pilipinas-Universe in April. Other search terms which figured in the top 10 list of Google's Insights for Search include the recent typhoon Bagyong Mina; mov0001.swf, a flash video of a bloody figure that aims to shock the viewer; the resignation of erstwhile Apple CEO Steve Jobs; the recently held PBA draft 2011; the psychiatric condition bipolar disorder; Hollywood actress Emma Stone; the recently concluded Dutdutan tattoo festival; GMA Films' movie Tween Academy, which was released last week; and the children's cartoon show Phineas and Ferb. Yahoo's search trends, meanwhile, showed that the following topics drew a massive online crowd during the past week: TV host and celebrity Mariel Rodriguez; Kapuso actor Polo Ravales; actor and athlete Enchong Dee; the wedding photos of Hollywood celebrity Kim Kardashian; Petron Blaze Boosters, the winner of the PBA Governor's cup this year; Typhoon Mina; young actor Joseph Bitangcol; symptoms for prostate cancer, a condition which singer April Boy Regino was recently diagnosed of; and the house of celebrity Kris Aquino. — TJD, GMA News
