Vegetable prices in Metro Manila start going down

After a spike in prices due to tropical cyclone "Mina" (Nanmadol), prices of vegetables in Metro Manila began to go down again on Friday. But the prices of many vegetables remained above pre-Mina levels as of Friday morning, according to a report by radio dzBB's Glen Juego. The report said vendors at the Marikina market lowered prices after they received a large volume of vegetables from Nueva Ecija at midnight Thursday. Prices of vegetables, especially from the north, went up earlier this week after floods and landslides triggered by "Mina" damaged roads from the Cordilleras to Metro Manila. The report said prices of repolyo (cabbage) registered one of the biggest changes, from a high of P70/kilo to P40/kilo as of Friday. Cabbage reportedly sold for as high as P115/kilo in Benguet, it added. Prices of other vegetables went down but have yet to revert to pre-Mina levels, including:

  • Potato, P30/kilo on Friday from P50/kilo (pre-Mina price was P25/kilo)
  • Ampalaya, P30/kilo from a high of P35/kilo this week
  • Tomato, P40/kilo on Friday from P60/kilo (pre-Mina price was P25/kilo)
On the other hand, prices of some items such as onions went up. Onion prices went up to P70/kilo from P60/kilo. Prices of chicken remained stable at P120/kilo, while pork sold at P170/kilo and beef at P240/kilo. — LBG, GMA News
