Wesley So bows to Karjakin in 2nd tiebreak of World Chess Cup


Wesley So, ranked 90th among the top 100 male chess players, yielded to world's No. 5 Sergey Karjakin in their second 25 minutes+ tiebreak game at the FIDE World Chess Cup 2011 in Russia Friday. Karjakin advances to Round 3 where he will do battle with Judit Polgar, the reigning No. 1 female grandmaster. So and Karjakin drew their first tiebreak match that began with the Catalan opening and ended in 22 moves as time ran out. In the second tiebreak, Karjakin, with his 38th move using his white rook, subdued So, whose king was trapped near its castling corner. Polgar was in the stands observing the game. Round 3 will commence Saturday evening with the elite 2700+ rated players.
