US congressional delegation visits PHL for military 'consultations'

A United States Congressional delegation visited in the Philippines last Friday and Saturday for consultations on the cooperation between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the United States military. Representative Rob Wittman (R-VA) led the three-member delegation, whose members belong to the House Armed Services Committee, the US Embassy said. "Their visit to the Philippines was one of several stops by the delegation during a tour of Asia Pacific nations to examine US government inter-agency cooperation and strategic initiatives," the embassy said in a news release posted on its website Sunday. Other members of the delegation were Reps. Rob Wittman (R-VA), Steven Palazzo (R-MS), and Madeleine Bordallo (D-GU). During its one-day visit to Manila and Zamboanga, the delegation met with top brass of the AFP and the leadership of the Joint Special Operations Task Force–Philippines (JSOTF-P). While in Manila, the delegation also visited the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial to pay their respects to the service members who lost their lives in World War II. — LBG, GMA News
