Bishop lauds Mexican boxer Marquez for being 'good Christian'

A senior Catholic bishop on Sunday lauded Mexican boxing legend Juan Manuel Marquez as a good example of a Christian, during a special Mass for him and Filipino boxing champ Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel “Manny" Pacquiao at the Manila Cathedral. Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo also said he was glad to have known Marquez, even as Pacquiao was a no-show at the event, radio dzBB’s Manny Vargas reported. Pabillo presided over the 8:30 a.m. Mass at the Manila Cathedral. Marquez and his party arrived at the cathedral early for the Mass. The report said Pabillo lauded Marquez for his example of attending Mass on Sundays. Earlier, Marquez and his party received a tour of the cathedral from rector Msgr. Nestor Cerbo. Marquez and his party had gone to the Cathedral straight from the Manila Hotel. On Saturday, Pacquiao and Marquez took part in a face-off in Manila to promote their upcoming November 12 bout. The two are to head abroad to further promote the fight, and then to go into training. — LBG, GMA News
