MMDA: Diggings continue to slow traffic in NCR

Despite a moratorium by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, diggings in major thoroughfares continued to slow down traffic in parts of the metropolis Monday. The MMDA said that as of 9 a.m., traffic was slow-moving at the southbound portion of C-5 Road from C.P. Garcia to J. Escaler. "(Traffic there is) slow moving due to diggings of drainage of (the Department of Public Works and Highways)," it said on its Twitter account. Also, it said potholes at the outer lane from Ortigas to Global City also slowed down traffic. In Quezon City, the MMDA said reblocking and potholes near the U-turn slot slowed traffic near Miriam College. Motorists and commuters had complained of heavy traffic in those areas Monday morning. "What's up along Katipunan?? Been stuck here for more than 30 mins!" complained Kara Gandionco. On Monday, the MMDA started a month-long moratorium on reblocking and pipe-laying projects in major thoroughfares. The MMDA required water concessionaires and those behind diggings to have their own traffic managers, as well as sign boards and contact numbers. Signs should indicate how long the diggings will take. Contractors who fail to complete their diggings on time will be fined from P1,250 to P25,000. — RSJ, GMA News
