Pinoy group in Saudi offers computer training to OFWs


A Filipino group in Saudi Arabia will hold a computer literacy seminar for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from September 9 to November 4. Overseas Filipino Workers Cooperative Council (OFWCC) Fortunato “Atoy" Esguerra, said the short courses are for OFWs who want to enhance their computer skills with the current software applications using Windows-based programs. Esguerra said the project is part of OFWCCs continuing advocacy to help fellow OFWs improve their skills. Esguerra said the seminars will be held for eight Fridays starting on September 9 and will run until November 4, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Laparilla Restaurant beside Speed Cash Remittance Center (Samba). Robert Perez, CLS Program Director, said the participants will not only be trained on Windows 7 operating system and Microsoft Office 7 (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access) but also on Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Founded in 1996, the OFWCC is a federation of cooperatives operating in the Western Region and is accredited by the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) in the Philippines. The OFWCC 2011 officials are composed of Fortunato Esguerra (Chairman and CEO); Wenfred Castolome (Education Committee Chairman and Incoming Board Chairman for 2012); Mila Christy Lacson (Secretary); Abdullah San Pedro (Treasurer); Aaron Joloc (replacing Jaime Leonida,transferred to Bahrain); Bernardo Gojo, and Jose Paduga. Those appointed assistants of the Executive Committee are Robert Perez (Asst. Secretary), Maria Mirasol Gabayno (Asst. Treasurer) and Marciano Par Jr.(Asst. Auditor).
