21-foot crocodile caught in Agusan del Sur town

A 21-foot saltwater crocodile suspected of having attacked several people was caught in Barangay Nueva Era in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur, a television report said on Monday. A report on GMA News TV's "News To Go" said the crocodile weighs 600 kilos and is the largest crocodile caught in the country to date, according to the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center. The Bunawan local government, together with the Protected Areas and Wildlife Division of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, set up traps to catch the crocodile after residents reported incidents of crocodile attacks, the report said.

In the same report, GMA News' Kara David said that in 2010, a young girl went missing near the Agusan Marsh and was believed to have been eaten by a crocodile. However, it is not known if the captured reptile is the same crocodile that attacked the girl last year. In July this year, a 14-foot saltwater crocodile (scientific name Crocodylus porosus), suspected of having attacked and eaten a fisherman, was caught in Bataraza, Palawan. — with Candice Montenegro/RSJ, GMA News
