Weather: No cyclone in PHL until Friday

Barring any sudden change in weather conditions, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) does not expect any new cyclone until at least Friday. In messages posted on its Twitter account before noon on Monday, PAGASA said its numerical models show no cyclone entering the Philippine area of responsibility until then. "No tropical cyclone within the Philippine Area of Responsibility until Friday (as) per latest numerical models," it said. On Sunday, PAGASA tracked a shallow low-pressure area (SLPA) but the weather disturbance - which would have been codenamed "Nonoy" had it become a cyclone - dissipated Sunday night. On the other hand, PAGASA indicated a monsoon trough may bring rain to various parts of the country in the next few days. Meanwhile, PAGASA said it still expects three to four cyclones to enter Philippine territory in September. It said "two to three" cyclones are expected in October, and "one to two" cyclones in November. At most, one cyclone is expected in December, it added. - VVP, GMA News
