NDRRMC: 1 killed, 4 hurt in whirlwind in Bukidnon


A one-year-old child was killed while four people were reported injured after a whirlwind hit three villages in Valencia City in Bukidnon over the weekend, belated reports reaching the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said. On Monday, the NDRRMC said the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. last Saturday. "The sudden occurrence of strong twisting winds devastated a total of 39 houses along its path," it added. It identified the fatality as James Alumin, 1, of P18, Brgy. Batangan in Valencia City. Those injured were identified as:

  • Mary Grace Alumin, 22
  • Gogelyn Versaga, 15
  • Sinisa Versaga, 48
  • Elton Galsin, 23 Except for Galsin who was an outpatient, the injured were brought to the Abella Midway Hospital in Valencia City. Also, the NDRRMC said the whirlwind destroyed 37 houses and damaged two houses, affecting 40 families or 152 peopl. The NDRRMC said the affected families from Batangan, Kahaponan and Tongantongan villages are now living with friends and relatives. — RSJ, GMA News
