PNoy administers oath to new DOT chief, 30 others


President Benigno Aquino III on Monday administered the oaths of office of 31 government officials, including newly-appointed Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez, and newly-promoted military generals and flag officers. Aquino announced Jimenez’s appointment last week while in China for a five-day state visit. Jimenez, who replaced Alberto Lim, took his oath of office last Friday before Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa. Aside from Jimenez, former Bulacan Governor Josefina de la Cruz also took her oath as the new postmaster general of the Philippine Postal Corporation. Others who took their oath before Aquino were:

  • Christian Robert Lim, commissioner, Commission on Elections,
  • Leslie Gatan, Philippine Ambassador to Canada,
  • Gregorio Ramon Tingson, commissioner at large, National Youth Commission,
  • Jennifer Lagbas, commissioner representing the business and industry sector, Commission on Women,
  • Lawyer Abdullah Mangotara, deputy commissioner, Bureau of Immigration,
  • Robert Nomar Leyretana, acting deputy administrator, Land Registration Authority,
  • Eduardo Batac, undersecretary, Department of National Defense,
  • Ibarra Gutierrez III, undersecretary, Office of the Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs,
  • Jose Mari Oquinena, undersecretary for special concern, Presidential Communications Operations Office,
  • Ernesto Ramel Jr, assistant secretary, Office of the Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs,
  • Lesley Jeanne Cordero, assistant secretary, Presidential Communications Operations Office, Lt. Gen. Anthony Alcantara, former Army spokesperson, led the newly-promoted generals who took their oath before Aquino. Prior to his assumption as AFP deputy chief of staff, Alcantara was the commanding general of the 6th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army. During his tenure, he was among those who supervised the implementation of martial law in Maguindanao following the massacre of 57 people there on Nov. 23, 2009. Others who took their oath were:
  • Major General Noel A Coballes, a member of PMA Class 1980 and commander of the 1st Infantry Division, Philippine Army. He is in the forefront of containing the remaining forces of the New People’s Army, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Abu Sayyaf bandits in the Zambonga peninsula region. He was also a former commander of the First Scout Rangers Regiment, Special Operations Command, Philippine Army.
