Weather: SLPA off northern Luzon to bring rains

A shallow low-pressure area (SLPA) off extreme northern Luzon will bring rain showers to parts of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Tuesday afternoon. PAGASA, in its 5 p.m. bulletin, said the SLPA was estimated at 1,110 km east of extreme Northern Luzon as of 2 p.m. "Palawan and Visayas will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms," it said. Light to moderate winds blowing from the southwest to west will prevail over the country, while the coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate, PAGASA said. PAGASA, however, did not say if the SLPA will become a cyclone. If it does, it will be codenamed "Nonoy." PAGASA had earlier said it does not expect any new cyclone to enter the Philippines until at least Friday. - KBK, GMA News
