Bulacan clamps down on sale of 'tainted meat'

Officials in Bulacan province are clamping down on alleged sale of "tainted meat" after authorities intercepted several attempts to deliver such product to markets in Manila in past weeks. Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado denied that the meat intercepted in Manila earlier this week was indeed from Bulacan, radio dzXL reported Wednesday. Alvarado vowed not to allow tainted meat from getting through the province's borders, amid speculations some of the product could have come from Pulilan town in Bulacan. City veterinary officials intercepted at least three shipments of tainted meat in Manila in the last two weeks. Officials expect more attempts to smuggle meat to markets as the Christmas season nears. — LBG, GMA News
